What do you have in your hand? Exodus 4:2 “The Lord said to him, ‘What is that you have in your hand?’ And Moses said, ‘A rod.’” In the book of Exodus God appears to Moses to tell him that God wants him to lead the Isrealites out of slavery in Egypt to the promised land. Moses had been wandering around the desert for 40 years berating himself for mistakes he had made forty years ago and certainly didn’t feel capable of leading anyone, let alone a bunch of slaves our of captivity to freedom. He tells God this and God responds by asking Moses a question. “What’s in your hand, Moses?” Basically, God responds to Moses’ excuses by saying to him, “Stop telling me what you don’t have and can’t do, and tell me what you do have. What’s in your hand Moses?” Moses answers God’s question by showing the only thing he has, a shepherd’s rod. A shepherd’s rod is essentially a stick with a curve on one end. God responds by filling the rod with heavenly power. God can use anything we are willing to offer to Him, even a stick! If God can use a dried up desert stick, He can surely use you and me! Don’t sit around pondering your problems, bemoaning your lack of talent and resources, waiting until you have the plan all figured out on how you are going to get it all done on your own. Let God fill you with heavenly power and get started doing whatever is in front of you today. Big jobs are all accomplished one step at a time. Ask Him to tell you what He wants done today and ask Him to fill you with His power to accomplish the piece you are to get done today. Then be obedient and do what He is inspiring you to do today. That’s all there is to success. Get today’s small jobs done through the power of God and over time you will see all of the big dreams and accomplishments that God is calling you to do completed in His time. Phil 3:14
